Beltcon 21, The International Materials Handling Conference and Exhibition

Johannesburg, South Africa. 2 – 3 August 2023

Beltcon 21 was held on 2 and 3 August 2023 at Emperors Palace Conference Centre near OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.

Delegates were treated to an impressive lineup of papers presented by speakers from all over the world, including the United States, Italy, Australia, Chile, Austria and Germany, as well as our own South African experts.

Topics covered underground conveyor loading, predicting durability of belt covers, DEM using bonded-particle approach, belt handling equipment for incline conveyors, lagging friction, legislative framework, gearless drives, gusseted transfer chute friction, steel cord splice fatigue, energy scale for conveyor belts, curved conveyors, pipe conveyors, sandwich belt high angle conveyors, and high capacity Flyingbelt.  The two key note speakers spoke on future developments and trends, and the importance of operational excellence, both very topical subjects and of great interest in promoting growth raised above mediocrity.

The exhibition, which could be visited during conference breaks, proved to be informative and of great practical interest to delegates and speakers alike, providing a great forum for informal networking.

This conference is organised by a dedicated committee of volunteers from the South African conveyor industry and will appeal to decision makers, designers, engineers, manufacturers and constructors in the sphere of belt conveying.

Beltcon 19 took place during the first week in August, 2017, in Pretoria, South Africa. This conference, held every second year for an astonishing 38 years, chalked up yet another success for the International Materials Handling Conference organisers.
